The Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset received a little more fire than it should, so we are all looking forward to moving past over-heating issues and welcoming the new high-end Snapdragon processor. A recent rumor pointed toward a possible Snapdragon 820 announcement to come this week. On August 11th, to be exact; but the latest reports state that is likely not the case.
This rumor emerged from Taiwan, after Qualcomm sent out invites for a mysterious press event to take place in Los Angeles, CA. People got overly excited and started assuming this was all about the Snapdragon 820, but it has been discovered this event is part of SIGGRAPH 2015. This happens to be a conference with a focus on computer graphics.
The latest sources (and common sense) suggest Qualcomm will simply be there to show off new gaming and graphics technology, but not the Snapdragon 820. Bummer, right? The good news is we are still likely getting all the details on the new SoC relatively soon. Rumors say samples have already reached major manufacturers, such as Sony and HTC.
Regardless of when the new processor is actually announced, we can expect something big from Qualcomm this time around. The new chip is said to offer a 40% increase in performance over the Snapdragon 810, as well as a 30% improvement in battery life. That is surely nothing to scoff at! Let’s just hope the thing doesn’t start getting too hot this time around.

Also, just because the Snapdragon 820 is not being announced this week, it doesn’t mean we won’t learn anything about it.
